Overview

Cold work Tool steels are a particular category of tool steels. They are used for making work parts which are employed in constantly low temperatures  (below 200°C). In this steel family we find, for example, the 1.2080 brand, a steel which is highly resistent to wear and which has moderate dimensional stability during heat treatment. It is used mainly for making rolls for cold strip rolling mills, shear blades, punches and dies, profiling rolls etc.

The 1.2379, on the other hand, is a steel which is characterized by its high resistance to wear, its excellent hardenability and dimensional stability during heat treatment. If treated at high temperatures, it acquires a secondary hardness at the next tempering. This feature makes this steel suitable for surface hardening treatments such as nitriding and/or P.V.
